A Treasure Chest for Style Lovers and Gift Buyers...
Oliver Bonas is one of those wonderful places that I go to when I'm in need of a gift, a treat for myself, something for the home or just need a nice browsing experience. Founded in 1993 in Fulham, this British institution has carved a niche of providing it's customers with beautifully designed and sourced product within lovely retail spaces. They now have 60 stores across the UK and Northern Ireland with many spread across central London and it's surrounding boroughs plus stores in the UK's major cities & towns including Edinburgh, Oxford, Leeds, Belfast and Birmingham. What I love about their concept is that each store feels unique and special yet there's a true consistency of atmosphere paired with great service from enthusiastic staff. Their online offer is good too and easy to browse each category plus they have their own blog which makes for a lovely, relaxing and intriguing read.
To research for this post I visited their Tottenham Court Road branch, one of the largest in their portfolio. I chose this because I wanted to being able to see as much of their product range as pkossible and get a true feel of the customer shopping experience.
The store is set across two floors and product is packed into every inch so there's plenty to look at, making it a really nice shopping experience. It houses a range of fashion from the Oliver Bonas own label, scarves, jewellery, fun tech, baby products, lots of beauty and a strong range of homeware from candles and accessories to glassware, crockery and it's infamously unique furniture pieces.
The staff (as is the case with all Oliver Bonas stores I've visited) were just lovely. Really helpful and friendly and well trained across the product ranges. They didn't know I was writing a blog so their attention was honest and natural.
In my usual style I've selected my key picks from my store visit and from their website. I've split this down into the 5 categories that I tend to go to Oliver Bonas for which are Homeware, Accessories, Furniture, Books and Gifts. All the images are loaded with links to the product on www.oliverbonas.com so all you have to do is click on the image and a new window will open up.
This is one area that Oliver Bonas nails for me season after season. I'd confidently say that all of my friends have at least one piece of OB homeware in their lives, if not several. Personally, I go here for decorative pieces that are to be displayed firstly but also used. Our home is a new-build flat so it's a bit of a white box with lots of wood finishing and I use the pieces from here to give it personality.
I really believe that the right accessory can lift any outfit whether it be a bag, a piece of jewellery or scarf. As a dedicated follower of all things black, my accessories picks tend to be a bit more adventurous to add a pop of colour and a bit of a statement.
On their website, Oliver Bonas writes about how their uniqueness comes from sourcing great design and unique pieces and there's no better example of this than their furniture. Some pieces, like their tub chairs, have been around for a while and I'm still waiting for the dream cottage to be able to have an excuse to purchase one (or three). Other pieces are new yet still so true to the Oliver Bonas aesthetic...
Cookery, fashion, beauty, style and life in general....you'll find a great book to suit any taste here. They must be a really key component in the Oliver Bonas product mix as they are ever-present, regardless of the size of the store. Great for gifts and I love building my own personal collection too...
When it comes to gift buying, Oliver Bonas tends to be a pretty good bet for me to find something fitting, almost regardless of the recipicant. Not only are they fantastic for the gifts themselves, they have a great choice of cards and wrapping or you can opt for one of the Oliver Bonas gift boxes for a small fee. Here's my picks for the most common gift purchases; weddings, babies, housewarming and birthday for him and her...
