Spotlight on Milan

Italy's Style Capital

The first time I visited Milan was with work when I was a buyer at Harrods.  I had spent 5 days in Venice, 3 days in Florence and had then got on the train to Milan for a final couple of days.  When I arrived and came out of the station I was a little disappointed.  It wasn't nearly as beautiful as Florence or Venice but yet it attracted such a cool set and was the venue for the bi-annul fashion weeks so surely there was more on offer?

From that trip and for many more after, I made it a personal mission to discover the hidden treasures and beauty of Milan and have come to love it.  Today I'd like to share with you my favourite places from restaurants to cool stores, a few touristy hot spots and also where to stay.

Eating and Drinking

BREAKFAST AT Pave, Via Felice Casati, 27, 20124 One of my favourite places to start the day off is Pave, situated in the Porta Venezia area.  It describes itself at a 'living room with a laboratory' and for great reason.....breakfast here is so good it feels like it's been developed by scientists.  Start the day with any of their signature pastries, hot from the oven and you're good to go.

DRINKS AT Bamboo Bar at the Armani Hotel, Via Alessandro Manzoni, 31, 20121 Armani is so quintessentially Italian and a much loved brand of mine for years.  No trip to Milan is complete without a slice of Armani so  step into their hotel and head for the Bamboo Bar for a light snack, drinks and some great people watching!

LUNCH AT Pasticceria Marchesi, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 20121 If you're after a yummy lunch in one of Milan's oldest venues with serious Instagram worthy surroundings then look no further.  Owned and managed by the Prada family this serious stylish venue packs a real punch with food too.

DINNER AT Ristorante Trussardi Alla Scala, Piazza della Scala, 5, 20121 Milano If you're looking for some amazing Italian (and French!) food, great service and chic surroundings then check out fashion week favourite, Trussardi.  This Michelin starred treasure sits adjacent to the flagship store of the same name (check out www.trussardi.com ).

Shopping

Excelsior,   Galleria del Corso, 4, 20122 There's a store like Excelsior in every major city around the world - they have amazing architecture, great visual displays, great brands and fine edits of products.  I spend at least an hour here every time I visit Milan.  I've bought a few things over the years but it's the experience of wandering around this store and discovering new products that I love most. Seven floors of womenswear, menswear, accessories, homeware, gifts, foods and general oddities

Frip,   Corso di Porta Ticinese, 16, 20123 This cool little store was stumbled upon as it sits right in front of the San Lorenzo columns.  Formerly a vintage store, Frip now stocks a range of cool-hunter brands alongside vinyl and magazines.  Both menswear and womenswear are here with collections from Acne, Marios, Eytys and AMH.

10 Corso Como, Corso Como 20154 Shopping, dining and even sleeping - all you could want in one very chic space.  10 Corso Como has been a pivotal part of Milan's style scene for years.  On arrival you are greeted by a quaint, plant-covered court yard before entering in the store which centres around products influenced by the arts, fashion, design and culture.  Founded by Carla Sozzani (sister of the late Franca Sozzani) they are now expanding their offer to NYC this year having already opened in Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing.

Wait and See, Via Santa Marta, 14, 20123 This is such a cute and happy place to shop and I've always come away with something different that really lifts my wardrobe.  The shop itself is pretty cool as it's actually a former convent.  Don't even think bout missing the place off your shopping list!
