Spotlight on Paris

"Paris is always a Good Idea"

Sabrina 1954

In February 2005 I took my first Eurostar to Paris to attend my first Premier Vision, the international fabric show held bi-annually in Paris.  When I came out of Gare du Nord and jumped into a taxi I instantly fell in love.  Nighttime in Paris has the most captivating magic about it and when I got to my hotel, overlooking Notre Dame cathedral and opened the quintessential shutters I couldn't believe the picture perfect view of a boat going down the Seine, the glittering cathedral to my right and an accordion buster playing just below me.

From that week on I've been back to Paris countless times with both work and with friends and loved ones.  Over the years I've found some great places to explore which I wanted to share with you today.  I enjoy staying in different neighbourhoods each time I visit and have really grown to love Montmarte, Bastille and Saint-Germain-des-Près.  Whilst the shopping and sights are amazing in Paris, I whole heartedly suggest to walk and explore this city - it really is somewhere to experience on your feet at a slower pace. Enjoy 'My Paris'....

Eating and Drinking

The Restaurant at Hotel Costes, 239-241 Rue Saint Honoré, 75001 Without doubt this is my favourite place for dinner in Paris and no trip is complete without a visit.  I always have their house steak with green beans aand the most amazing whipped potatoes you've ever eaten.  Dinner and drinks here are made all the better by the atmosphere - it's an incredible sensual experience with lots of velvet, candle light and very beautiful wait staff.  Enjoy and indulge...

Cafe de Flore, 172 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75006 This is a serious Parisian institution and I suspect most of you will have heard of it.  I love it for lunch and always try and grab a seat outside and enjoy the people watching.  The salad nicoise is one of the best in the city and since it's a favourite of locals and celebrities alike, you've got to know its pretty good!  Avoid the cliched croque monsieur and be adventurous.

Lou Lou, 107 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Nestled within the delights that is the Jardin des Tuileries,  we found this place when in Paris last year for my birthday and had a lovely lunch in the sun on our way to the Louvre.  A lovely, chic and elegant place with great service and one of the best tuna salads I've had.

Septime, 80 Rue de Charonne, 75011 Not the easiest place to get a table as it's been one of Paris' coolest handouts for years but if you can, you'll not be disappointed.  The setting is really casual and chilled (in contrast to Costes) but it doesn't hold a Michelin star for nothing.  The food is always seasonal and have a contemporary twist on bistro classics.  I'd recommend the tasting menu which is designed by the chef on the day!

Angelina, 226 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 I honestly don't think I've ever had another hot chocolate quite like this - it's basically enlisted chocolate in a cup and, although really rich, it's seriously delicious.  Angelina's is one of those quaint cafes that are oh so Parisian yet oh so touristy but I'd still recommend it.  The Mont Blanc dessert is another little triumph.

La Société,  4 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, 75006 I first went here a few years ago when in Paris with other buyers from Harrods and floated out of the restaurant having met Tom Ford!  La Societe is located right opposite the stunning church of Saint Germain and the interiors of the restaurant are equally as awe inspiring.

Shopping

Colette, 213 Rue Saint Honoré, 75001 This uber cool mini-department store come concept store is one of my favourite stores retail places globally.  From the knick knacks and tech on the ground floor to the amazing fashion edit on the 1st floor and the little beauty corner nestled between the two it's simply special.

Spree, 16 Rue la Vieuville, 75018 A concept store like no other, spree is the love child of stylist Roberta Oprandi and artist Bruni Hadjadj and they've made something pretty darn magical.  Expect directional edits from Sofie d'Hoore, Vanessa Seward and MSGM plus cute accessories and amazing pieces of furniture.

City Pharma, 26 Rue du Four, 75006 France is the place to go for cult French pharmacy products so head to City Pharma before those clever high-end beauty buyers discover them first.   I found Caudalie here when the elixir was just £5 and Embryolisse when it was under £10.  Go and discover...
